Paul Darey

International DJ sensation, Paul Darey, always keeps the crowds smiling with his infectious style of tech-house/house music. He tells Bench why Space is the best club in the world.

Who? Paul Darey
Where from? Buenos Aires, Argentina
Lives? In Ibiza at summer time and in Barcelona at winter time.
Job? DJ/ producer and Space Ibiza resident.
Describe your style? Groovy Tech-House and House music.
Claim to fame? It is not a secret, if you want to have success you have to work hard so this is what I did and still do, work hard for a long time in the studio and always give 200% of myself in my sets and, of course, work at the best club in the world Space Ibiza.
What are your first musical memories? When I was 7 years old and I bought a The Police’s cassette with the money I saved from my 7th birthday.
When did you know you wanted to be a DJ? I know I wanted to be a DJ the first time I went to a club when I was 14 years old and I saw the dj playing and make everybody dance.
You’ve worked with some huge names – Who are your musical inspirations? I try to take the best of each DJ set I listen and mix them with my own ideas, but mostly I take my inspiration of DJ’s like Carl Cox, Steve Lawler, etc… they have been working for a lot of years and they are an example for all who work in the electronic music scene.
You now play all over the world – Have you got the best job in the world? Yes I really have, this job allowed me to play all over the world, meet a lot of people and see other countries and cultures, is really good when you arrive for the first time in a country and you see all the people having fun during my set time.
How did you get involved in Space Ibiza? I had some dates at Fridays mornings party called Cassagrande and, the year after, when the afterhours where finished, I started working in the Mondays Calling night (from now on Ibiza Calling) and then I became Space Ibiza resident DJ.
How does it compare to other clubs around the world? It’s impossible to compare Space Ibiza with other clubs as it’s my favourite club in the world.
What’s better – recording in the studio or playing live? I like both but I prefer to play live because it is amazing to feel the connection with the crowd and make them dance and enjoy, but studio is also really good.
What are you working on at the moment and with whom? At the moment I’m working at the studio in a new project with my friends Iñaki Santos and Alex Miles.
Where is the most incredible place you’ve ever played and why? Space Terrace in the Opening and Closing parties because is the best atmosphere I’ve ever seen in my life.
If you could play one more set before you die where would it be and what tunes would you just have to play? Without doubt, I would play at Space Ibiza Terrace and I will play all my own tracks.
Obviously you are a Bench fan. What do you love about Bench clothes? I love the way the brand designs the clothing with fresh lines and very comfortable to wear.
If fans want to catch you playing, where will they find you this year and where can they keep track of where you will be? I will be playing in Space Ibiza at Cafe Olé parties, and also I will be playing in Menorca, Mallorca, Barcelona, and around Europe. If fans want to know all my details, dates where I will be playing, new music etc this is the easy way: www.facebook.com/pauldarey and www.twitter.com/PAULDAREY.
