Time to delve into another music lovers mind and share some top moments, memories and sounds. This month House DJ and bongo beatmaester Studio Swiss, aka Bench IT System Administrator.
Who? – Studio Swiss
What do you do at Bench?
I look after the server and storage infrastructure. It’s my job to make sure it all works.
In another life you’re a DJ – describe your style?
It’s an experimental shuffle board of minor chords and major deepness. I produce under the name of Studio Swiss and enjoyed my first vinyl only release last summer. Falcons Pass came out on Crow Castle Cuts which has become a niche collector’s label. I was somewhat tickled when I heard it in one of Jane Fitz’s Dirty Sound Sessions.
What’s your first musical memory?
Hmmm… …it was getting my mum to listen to Deep Heat 8 through my Sony Walkman on the way to a caravan holiday in Somerset. Ahh nostalgia. Also, in one respect it was inheriting my uncles record collection – Chic, Shalamar, Souxie Soux, Talking Heads, Billy Ocean Ahem!… In another, some good friends took me out to Berlin in 2007. That was when I really switched on! Clubs like the Berghain and Tape blew my mind. Ok that’s three.
What are your top 3 tunes for 2012?
Arttu - Attic House (4 Lux Black) - LISTEN HERE
Cy – Valle Crucis Radio Party (Crow Castle Cuts) – LISTEN HERE
Tim Toh – Sexual Campfire (Mild Pitch) – LISTEN HERE
Musical inspirations?
My friends. I’m surrounded by a magnificent cluster of creative sparks that feed each other’s drive. I also take a lot of inspiration from the Freerotation festival and the artists that play there. It’s an intimate party for real house heads. Steevio and the crew create a magical vibe at Baskerville Hall. Each year I’m working on music as soon as I get home. My aim is for Studio Swiss to evolve into a into a platform for friends and artists to share their music. A collective independant electronique.
When’s your next gig?
I’ll be throwing some parties with the Audio Farm collective this autumn, so keep your ears to the underground.
