Camilo Franco is one of the best-known International & national DJs in Spain. Born in Colombia he works around the Balearic and Canary Islands as well as Europe, the Middle East, East Europe and Africa. Bench caught up with him on the Space Tour in Las Vegas

Claim to fame? I think the secret is how I can connect with the crowd when I’m playing my music. I try my best, being friendly with everyone and treating them with respect; guess that helps a lot to this world! And, of course, behind the success there is a lot of work!
What are your first musical memories? Jazz, Latin, Soul, Rap & Hip-Hop and Acid House.
When did you know you wanted to be a DJ? As a kid when I was 13 years old and I was watching all the rap music videos and the deejays playing beats and scratching. Since then I knew I wanted to be a deejay…
You now play all over the world – Have you got the best job in the world? For me yes!!! I do what I love, I meet very interesting people and I visit incredible cities all over the world, getting in touch with new culture. I love it!
Where is the most incredible place you’ve ever played and why? Well, the most impressive place I have ever played in was at Space Ibiza’s Flight Area during the Closing Party 2011. But the most incredible place I’ve ever played in was in a really small private Island in Maldives for a Russian NYE. That was really special because we had to go in a small typical Maldivian boat from another island to arrive there. I remember that night the sky was full of stars and was the best starry sky I ever seen in my life….was unbelievable to be playing in the middle of the Indian Ocean…..
Who are your musical inspirations? I have different musical inspirations. My father is a musician and my parents are Latin so I used to listen to jazz and Latin music since I’m a kid, but I also loved Rap and Hip-Hop…
If you could play one more set before you die where would it be and what tunes would you just have to play? I don’t know exactly the place yet, but I think in any massive festival for maybe 60.000 people. And I will play for sure. Donna Summer – I feel Love, Mory Kante – Yeke Yeke, any electronic mix of Eurythmics – Sweet Dreams, or DJ Rolando – Jaguar……
Obviously you are a Bench fan. What do you love about Bench clothes? I love the colours, their material and all the cool images and draws they use for the t-shirts.
